Cold Spell: Rooting

The vast majority of books or advisors will tell you to root or ground yourself before any work. It is important, yes! A lot of us live in cities without acess to soil or even trees. How, then, can you come into more contact with the earth, connect to that power?

One way to do it is to find something in your abode that is made of wood. Any kind of wood - even particle board. I am lucky to have wood floors, and a dresser of wood. But even a pencil will do.

Touch this wood - stand on your wood floor if you, too, are lucky to have one, or put your hands on the dresser or table, or hold that pencil. Close your eyes.

The spirit is never fully refined from the objects. The atomic particles are still dancing in that space between them. THe energy it took to grow, the sun it absorbed, the water it thirsted for and drank, the soil it burrowed into, all of that is still part of it's history. While it is easier to see it when it's closer to its original form, it is important to remember it is around us even in its altered state.

Tree Roots, by Gordon M Robertson (edited)

Unnamed tree, identified only in your ghost form,

travel back with me to the forest, let us ride together,

stretch into the soil; show me your home,

that dirt containing sparks of life and star dust

that could become anything, given time, of which there is eternity.

Burrow and spread, our roots weave new patterns through old until we are all locked together in this time, of which there is eternity.

And breathe, and breathe, and breathe. Sink into solidity. Disperse your particles into the All. Follow your intentions with the confidence of a safe return.
